Lucy & Lilly, a bonded pair of Holland Lops, were adopted in April to a great family. Their new family consists of very rabbit-savvy people who had lost their last bun just five months earlier. The family was so excited to bring their new rabbits home that they even arrived at Highland PETCO extra early to pick them up. These sweet girls will be so loved as part of this great family.

There is just one pair left in foster care waiting for a home - Xena & Gabrielle. Xena came in very aggressive and we\'ve been working hard with her to curb that behavior. In recent weeks, we\'ve been able to break through the aggression and she\'s discovered that being adored is pretty cool. The aggression is a long-term behavior that is still there, but at least she knows and enjoys being loved now. In time, the aggression should diminish and her adoptability will increase.

A day in court

The woman who owned all the rabbits confiscated in August \'04 has been to court. She pled guilty to one count of gross misdemeanor mistreatment of animals. She has been sentenced to reimbuse prosecution costs of $50.00 and to continue/complete her counseling. Other charges and further sentencing has been postponed for a year. If she does not reoffend during that year, she will not incur any further criminal penalties.

There is still a pending claim on restitution for the care, euthanasia, and disposal of rabbits who died in the humane society\'s care or were already dead when confiscated. That amount could exceed $3,000 but is being disputed.

Whatever the court decides regarding the restitution to the humane society, if she does not repay the ordered amount she would also have to face sentencing on the other charges.

Mandy finds her forever home!

MN HRS is pleased to announce that Mandy has found her forever home with a MN HRS member who plans to spoil her rotten and treat her like the princess she wants to be. Mandy\'s new family consists of two adult humans, a dog, a cat, a bonded pair of bunnies, and several fish.

I\'m very sorry to tell everyone that Jenny was euthanized last week. She was the ')
document.write('rabbit from the confiscation that had a bad URI (upper respiratory infection) that we just couldn\'t seem to beat. A necropsy was done, and Jenny\'s heart and lungs were in pretty tough shape.

Thanks to Jenny\'s foster mom, Debbea, we were able to give Jenny a loving home for awhile and a peaceful passing. She was loved and will be missed.

Evie - companion to Bess until Bess died in early September, she found a home as a companion to a grey/white mini-lop boy named Bailey (formerly an MN HRS foster bun, too!). Her new mom drove all the way from Rochester for this event. Evie was the first & only bun we tried with Bailey - things went that well! In fact, their first "date" lasted over an hour, involved lots of cuddling & even some grooming! Yay for Evie!

Lily - large fuzzy lop/angora mix. Found a home with a MN HRS member who really wanted a bunny she could dote on. She certainly found one! Lily\'s long coat needs regular grooming, so they will get to spend quality time together making Lily beautiful. :) Yay for Lily!

Dagny - smaller, shy red lop. She seemed a little overwhelmed by all the activity of the event, and spent a lot of time just sitting & watching. Near the end as things were wrapping up, a woman came in & went directly to Dagny. I started talking with her and brought Dagny out of her cage so she could hold her. She barely put her down again. :) We went & found her husband, they talked, they asked lots of questions about rabbit care (never had a rabbit before). We walked around gathering up supplies while Dad got to hold her a bit. When we came back, Dagny was snuggled into his shoulder and they were clearly very content. :) So, we sent them home with lots of starter information and a very contented little red rabbit. Yay for Dagny!
