New Rabbit Thymes January 2009

Santa Brought the Bunnies a Special Gift!
I'm excited to share that 2008 has been a very good year for the bunnies in Minnesota and 2009 promises to be even better! In 2008, we hired our first employee -- a part-time Adoption Director -- one result of which is an increase in the number of rabbits MCRS is able to help. In fact, adoptions were up a stunning 70% from the previous year!! We are closing out the year with 159 rabbits adopted out on MCRS contracts and another 38 rabbits adopted directly from shelters with MCRS assistance -- a total of almost 200 rabbits helped to find homes. Amazing!
2009 brings with it an equally big change for MCRS - our own space! For the first time in our seven years of existence, we will have a "home" for our events, classes, and equipment. We have rented a commercial suite in South St Paul. Read more ...

New Perfect Rabbits!
The company providing the Perfect Rabbit that we sell at local PETCOs has been having trouble finding a new fabric supplier, and thus has been back ordered for 6 months with no end in sight.
So we've decided to carry a NEW Perfect Rabbit ... the chocolate-colored "Truffles" model by Purrfection! This is a smaller rabbit than the current Brittany model, and will be just $5.99.
These should be ready very soon. They'll tie in nicely to a "Make mine chocolate" theme for Easter, though we weren't able to get them to the PETCO stores in time for Christmas. They'll also be at the MCRS Minnetonka supply location for individual purchase.
Contact MCRS if you're interested in helping put tags on hundreds of these new buns! |
eNewsletter's First Issue is a Success
We just had to share what a high number of views our bunnies' adoption profiles got the first week of December. The total number of hits almost doubled from the week before -- from 1203 to 2305! And in addition to simply getting a higher volume of views, each rabbit got
about 30% more hits than the week before, too -- from 52 to 68 avg
hits/each.
That's in part due to the hard work of everyone who helped get nine new rabbits profiled so they could be viewed online. It's also in part due to the first issue of the new eNewsletter that went out, too.
This will undoubtedly lead to more incoming applications in the near future. Thanks to everyone who made this possible. We just keep getting the intake requests, so the faster the buns get into homes, the more buns we can help overall! |

Welcomes & Farewells
You may know Pete Reiter because of his heavy involvement in MCRS activities for years, and his service in a variety of capacities. MCRS now welcomes him as a Board member, as well!
Karen Skewes has stepped down as Adoption Event Coordinator. We'd like to thank Karen for her years of service to MCRS. She's done a wonderful job coordinating our adoption events over the years, and all her time and effort has been greatly appreciated. Thank you Karen, you have truly made a difference!
Carol Jud has taken on the role of Foster Home Lead covering foster homes in the SW area of the Twin Cities. Most of you probably already know Carol from her work in various other areas within MCRS. She is also an active volunteer at AHS. Please join us in welcoming Carol to our foster team!

Want to Help the Bunnies? Become a Fosterer!
MCRS is in great need of additional foster spaces. We've had an increase of intake requests from local humane societies and animal control agencies, and we'd like to accommodate all of their requests for help. But we can only do this if we have adequate foster space. If you're able to make room for a foster rabbit in your home, please read more about it and then contact us.
This happens every year over winter as people surrender rabbits due to the weather conditions. We usually see "dump season" start as early as September and continue right up to Adopt-a-Rabbit month in February, when space usually starts to free up again. This year's season has started late, but it has hit hard and there are a lot of bunnies in need.
MCRS covers all expenses related to fostering, except for fresh greens which is up to the foster home. Foster homes need to make their foster rabbit available for adoption events so they can meet people who might adopt them. We currently hold adoption events every three weeks at various locations around town. |
